"OLD PULP MILL AT HIGH TIDE", Oil painting by Kathy O'Leary
This is a scene of one of Humboldt Bay's iconic images, the old pulp mill on the Samoa sand spit across from the coastal town of Eureka, California. This piece was recently seen in an exhibition of paintings and photographs of the mill held at the local antiquarian book store, Eureka Books. Even as an artist attracted to the natural landscape, I have been unaccountably attracted to this industrial site too. I love the architectural shapes and it was always the local weather vane for residents around the bay. Smoke pointing south (left) meant clearing, smoke pointing north meant rain. Although closed now, there are still hopes for a greener use for the facility in the future. This painting measures 8 x 10, and is done on canvas covered panel. SOLD
