I painted this one from I photo I took from the side of the road on Alii Drive, in Kailua, Kona. Bill and I were walking back to our rental condo after dinner at Huggo's, where we had truly wonderful ahi tacos. It was late in the day, but there wasn't much of a sunset, due to that persistent "vog." I think the restaurant in the middle ground of the painting is Bubba Gumps.

This painting features the Honokohau Marina & Small Boat Harbor, which is just north of Kona, on the big island of Hawaii. I was in Hawaii to do a painting commission and struggled with the light -- the volcano was active and the trade winds were down so the island was blanketed in "vog" (a combination of volcanic ash and fog). The air was hazy throughout the entire trip, and the lighting conditions were odd but interesting. To view my other ebay listings, click here.

Here's one from the Woodley Island Marina, across Humboldt Bay from Eureka, California. I painted this from a photo I took the other day from Eureka's Boardwalk, on a rare sunny day. The weather on the north coast has been pretty dismal this spring -- one cold, rainy day after another, so this day was a welcome change. The painting is 8" x 10" and is painted on a board. It's signed and titled on the back.SOLD

This original oil painting features a grove of redwoods in Freshwater, California, which is about halfway between Eureka and Arcata, on California's north coast. I painted it from a photo I took during an Easter Sunday party, at a house in the middle of a redwood grove. The figure is my friend Becky Evans, a well-known local artist. "Becky walking toward the Light" is 8" x 10" and is oil on panel. It's titled and signed on the back.

I painted this one alla prima (all at once) from a photo I took last month from the deck of the Moonstone Grill, a lovely restaurant in Trinidad, California. Moonstone is a "special occasion" restaurant for us -- they have really yummy food, an ocean view and spectacular sunsets.

This painting features boats docked at the Wharfinger Marina, on Humboldt Bay in Eureka. It's painted from a photograph I took late on a winter afternoon, on a day that started out as one of those dreary northcoast days with a solid, low cloud cover and no hope of any light. I went for a walk to the marina late in the afternoon and captured this brief sighting of the sun.

I painted this one last month, during my artist's retreat in Westport, on the Mendocino coast of California. It was painted on location, en plein air, after an intense storm that left the ocean as agitated as a washing machine.

This painting features lemon pastries in the display case at Cafe Brio in Arcata. I can never go into Brio without snapping a picture of what's on display. Their baked goods are works of art.

Here's one from my recent trip to Westport, California. I painted it from a photo I took at around 4:30 a.m. on the morning after the full moon. There are very few people or lights in Westport, so the night skies were very black, making the moon seem even brighter.

I spent the holidays in the wine country, visiting with family and friends. The mustard was just starting to bloom in the vineyards -- there's a mustard festival in the Napa Valley every winter to celebrate the color.

This will be my last posting for a few weeks. I've been given a grant for an 'artist's retreat,' to write and paint for a full month. I'll be staying at a small house on the Pacific Ocean, with an art studio that overlooks the sea. Watch for updates!

When I walked down to the Eureka Boardwalk the other day, there was a gigantic red boat docked at the Woodley Island Marina, across Humboldt Bay. The color of the boat made a nice contrast against the gray sky.

This one is from last spring, when I painted in the Mount Shasta, California region with a group of women plein-air painters painters. On our last night in the area, we decided to take the dinner train -- you catch in the train in McCloud and it takes you around the base of the mountain. The ambiance and dinner was great, but the best part of the trip was the open-air car, where we sipped our wine while viewing the spectacular scenery. "Shasta Sunset Dinner Train" is signed, dated and titled on the back. PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO THE HOLIDAYS, THIS PAINTING WILL NOT SHIP UNTIL DECEMBER 31.
