"Blue House, La Penita Mexico" by Stock Schlueter

Sold
Oil on 4"x5" panel. This little painting is from LaPenita Mexico. It is a lovey coastal town about an hour north of puerto Vallarta. We have been there a couple times, once for three weeks and then for a month. We made friends with some of the locals and had an exhibit of our work at an art gallery there. A young local artists took me to several places to paint that otherwise would not have been available. "Blue House"was one of those places. The landscape is jungle right down to the beach.
I painted everyday.

Oil on 6"x6" panel. Inspired by the beauty and grace of cats I am always seeking ways to create with their image. Here I was influenced by days of reading The Secret Life of Salvador Dali then moving on to Magritte, I found a new appreciation for surrealism!

Fortune Teller by Rachel K Schlueter

Oil on 9"x12" panel. I painted this at my residency in March. I was looking through art posters in Mr. Graves' studio and found a great one of a local woman, I believe she has passed. She sits at table with a crystal ball over a spread of tarot cards, the photo was taken by Peter Palmquist. The lighting throughout is purple. I wish I had the poster, I would love to take another crack at it using the whole image, It's a great photo. If you are interested in the purchase of "Fortune Teller" please contact me through email.

Beasley by Rachel K Schlueter

Click to Bid
Oil on 6"x5" panel. "Beasley" was the first painting I did during my three week residency at the Morris Graves Foundation in Loleta CA. I arrived at noon on the 5th of March, unpacked and began painting immediately, I worked in the studio where Mr. Graves painted... it has to be one of the most beautiful studios on the planet! It has high ceilings and huge north facing skylight, built on the edge of a natural 6 acre pond surrounded by old growth forest, the pond is home to countless birds and one little otter. It was great to be there, I got a lot of paintings done. Three weeks is a long time to be without loved-ones and there was no radio, phone, TV, or computer, so I was able to collect my thoughts and gain some perspective...it's great to be home!

Scrub Jay

Sold
Oil on 5x9" panel. Jays are so beautiful. A few years back my husband and I raised a jay that had fallen out of his nest. We were camping and on our first day plop out of the tree he came flopping around on the ground, it was not long before a raven began circling. I thought to myself I can do this, we have the time. So we did. It was six weeks on the Trinity river painting and being new new parents. Our scrub Jay friend was male, we named him Juno because the month was June. In the end it was hard to leave him but we knew he would be fine when he started bringing friends by and sharing his food. For photos, click: Juno. This painting is not Juno but what he would look like at full maturity.

Otis

Click to bid
Oil on 6"x8" panel. Otis is our black cat, adopted the year Stock and I were married in 2004.
I am currently involved in a fund raising event for Art Helps the Planet -a group of professional artists in the Pacific Northwest selling original work, and prints and cards made from that work. A percentage of the sales price benefits animal rescue organizations. The first two are Save the Tiger Fund, which is now panthera.org and Sequoia Humane Society. Art can be purchased directly from the blog, through our Etsy shop, by emailing us using Paypal, and seen in person at the C Street Hall Gallery in Eureka.
So far, we've been able to donate $492 from blog, gallery and studio sales, and Panthera has agreed to promote our Tiger show to benefit them in April of 2012.
Regina case decided to do this after organizing the Japan Animal Rescue Project, an auction of art in Eureka, California to benefit animal relief organizations after the earthquake in Japan.
