"LITTLE ONIONS" by Alicia Tredway

"Little Onions" measures 7 x 5 inches and 10 x 8 with the mat.  I painted this using my light box set up and was struck by the delicateness of these objects in this lighting.  All high key and creamy white in many variations.  It is oil on mylar.

This is oil on mylar 6 1/2 x 6 1/4 inches.  I used a lighted box-like affair for this alla prima painting.

"SECONDS THOUGHTS" by Alicia Tredway

This was painted back in 2008 at a life drawing session.  I finished it in the studio from photo reference.  I love the tension with a group of artists and time restraints but can't ever seem to put the finishing touches unless I'm in my own digs.  It's 11 x 14 inches oil on a linen Raymar panel.

8 x 8 inches oil on canvas panel.  Painted from an old vintage photograph.  Since it's the river close to my place I had  special interest.  I obtained permission to use the photo from Diane Hawk who wrote 'A Glance Back' .....Northern Mendocino County History.

I have much reference material from our local Summer Arts Fair.  These scenes are so full of color which amplifies the festive nature and allows me to use garish colors together.  Don't ask me why I need permission.  This oil on 8 x 8 inch canvas panel.

I painted this from a photo I took.  Mom and baby were in the Bamboo and Naked Lady bulbs.  It is oil on canvas panel 8 x 10 inches.

"HAZY MENDOCINO MORNING" by Alicia Tredway

I love to paint in Mendocino and this is a favorite spot.  The ocean is to the right out of sight.  The early morning ocean fog blankets the scene in a lovely soft harmonizing color.  8 x 10 inches oil on canvas panel.

I painted this watercolor during a life drawing session.  She was expecting her first child.  It measures approximately 10 x 7 inches and with the mat will fit into a 14 x 11 frame.

"MOOSE & CALF" by Alicia Tredway

This is part of a series of paintings I did for a show about Alaska.  These huge rather strange looking but beautiful animals are plentiful and I always had to be mindful and aware while painting.  This was painted back in 2006 and I remember photographing the moose and her calf on the side of the road and then using the photograph in another setting that was more interesting.  The painting is oil on canvas 11 x 14 and has straight forward simple black strip framing.

"CORNER GROCERY" by Alicia Tredway

"SPRING GREENS" by Alicia Tredway

This was painted in my friend's back yard which was a riot of new greens and flowers.  I usually run the other way when confronted with this much green to paint but since the weather said probable rain we decided to stay. It was beautiful to look at but a real challenge to paint.   I had to look very closely at the subtle color modulations and be careful not to generalize.  The size is 12 x 9 inches oil on canvas panel.

"CR RESPITE" by Alicia Tredway

8 x 10 inches oil on canvas panel.  This is the place I went when time permitted between classes at College of the Redwoods.  There was a convenient bench just out of the picture.  I love the big firs as a backdrop for the light spring tree and grasses.  Fences always add a  human element and 'lead in compositional device' plus I just like them.  Another little human sign is  you can see where the lawnmower stopped. "ALDERPOINT RD. FALL" by Alicia Tredway

Every Monday I used to travel this road and got to see it in all seasons.  The hills and mountains go on forever.  I was attracted to the way the clouds cast some hills in deep shadow while others were in sunlight.  Also the steep angle of foreground hill was quite intriguing.
