"Dune Trail At Dawn", oil paintng by Kathy O'Leary

There are sand dunes at many of California's coastal access points. This scene is from a walk I took at dawn among the sand dunes at Pacific Grove's Asilomar conference grounds just south of Monterey. Sunrises and sunsets are always a challenge. Keeping the dunescape darker and subtle, with the sky and sand the major sources of light, was my main challenge in this piece. This painting is 8 x 10 on panel.

  1. Your brushwork makes it looks like it even the air is painted.

  3. I LOVE your work. I can't afford to buy any more paintings right now, but I just wanted to say that. I'm not even sure how I ended up on this page. :-)
