Mystery Skull by RK Schlueter

Oil on 10x12" panel. Mystery Skull is one in my ofrenda series that will be on display at 208 C Street hall gallery in Eureka for October Arts Alive!. The exhibit will run for two months and feature works by over twenty local artists. The show was proposed by Lida Pekova. Day of the Dead: Día de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday that focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have passed on. It is particularly celebrated in Mexico, where it attains the quality of a National Holiday. Traditions connected with the holiday include building altars honoring the deceased using sugar skulls, candles, Marigolds and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed and often visiting graves with these as gifts. If you would like to contribute artwork or put an offering on the alter contact Rachel Schlueter or come to the reception- Friday, Sept. 30 and Saturday, Oct. 1st 6-9:00p.
