Fortune Teller by Rachel K Schlueter

Oil on 9"x12" panel. I painted this at my residency in March. I was looking through art posters in Mr. Graves' studio and found a great one of a local woman, I believe she has passed. She sits at table with a crystal ball over a spread of tarot cards, the photo was taken by Peter Palmquist. The lighting throughout is purple. I wish I had the poster, I would love to take another crack at it using the whole image, It's a great photo. If you are interested in the purchase of "Fortune Teller" please contact me through email.

This is a painting of a woman named Bonnie Benzanelli Gool. (not positive of the spelling) She was really well known around here in the 70's & early 80's. She was an activist, generally a populist, spoke for the disenfranchised, on the Eureka City Council for a while. A very interesting and colorful person. I love the portrait of her.

    1. I wonder if she is related to Heidi Benzanelli? It is a fabulous painting by the way! Can't wait to see more of what you did.

  2. Thanks Kathy and Linda! That's right Kathy, Bob Doran thought he recognized her too and emailed information about Bonnie that matched what I could remember Robert and Desiree telling me. Her image was very powerful, the photo I worked from is just fascinating, how Peter captured her in this wild setting.
