'Down by the River, by RK Schlueter

Oil on 24" canvas.
Painting portraits is so very difficult, yet I seem compelled to practice it. Here I've used Vermeer's Girl with Pearl Earring as a reference, why not? I don't mind making a fool of myself...besides you never know what you can accomplish unless you go for it. I'm searching for a way to proceed that feels natural. I don't feel I'm getting what I want yet, I know it's within my grasp! The portrait work of Andrew Daniel's inspires me very much and shows a way to achieve more with less!

My artwork is being featured at Sewell Gallery of Fine Art during the month of October.
My reception is Saturday Oct. 4, 6-9pm. I hope to see you!

  1. Thank you for your show of paintings this month at the Sewell. They beautifully highlight the wonder and meaningfulness of how working with nature provides nourishment of our bodies, minds and souls.
