Several summers ago forest fires raged through northern California. Fellow paintersand I were painting along the coastline just above Mendocino. As the fires drew nearer
smoke filled the air with it's pungent odor. As I passed through the redwoods on my
way home a fire crew was putting out the last vestiges of a fire as the flames worked
their way up redwood trunks.
On my return home I transcribed what I saw by taking a painting I had previously done of the redwoods and overlaying it with the smoke and flames I recalled from the fire.
Painted in oils on a 7 1/2 x 11 1/4 wood panel.

lovely artistic way to paint...wish I would allow myself to do it.
ReplyDeletecompletely delightful.
ReplyDeleteYou often surprise me with your subject matter! The colors in this one unusual for a landscape due to the subject. They make me want to paint abstractions!
