Roses and Leaves painting by Andrew Daniel
I met with John Crater at his studio on a rainy day last week. We decided to set up a still life instead of going out to paint the landscape. We were looking at a Richard Schmid painting on his computer screen as we worked for ideas. I focused on using more variety in my brush work as I know Schmid does. I was also trying to paint really thin for mu initial layer so that I could come in thicker on the next layers with out it getting hard to control. I think the painting feels more alive then my typical ones because of these approaches.
This is an original oil painting on Baltic Birch Panel . It measures 8" x 10" (20cm x 25cm), signed by the artist.

Lovely work, Andrew,...Schmid is a contemporary hero of mine also.
ReplyDeleteI love the feeling light in this painting.
