EEL RIVER SENTINEL, Oil Paintng by Kathy O'Leary

I've been enjoying painting coastal light and atmosphere lately. This is a view of a very old Cypress on a hill above the Eel River Valley as the river approaches the ocean. This tree, near Loleta, California was probably planted by ranchers or diary farmers in the mid to late 1800's.
Its huge and stately, and the only tree on the hill for a large distance around. It offers a great sculptural shape against the soft focus of the distant scene created by the moist ocean air.
This painting measures 8 x 10 and was done on massonite panel. SOLD
