VERNAL POOLS, Oil Painting by Kathy O'Leary

Hi Folks! I'm back - and will be contributing regularly to this blog again, after an hiatus for a painting workshop, traveling and finishing paintings for exhibition.

During my travels this past Spring I was driving along California's central coast highway and stumbled upon this amazing scene. The softness of the coastal air combined with the chartreuse and gold marsh grasses surrounding the amazing deep blue pools stopped me in my tracks. Since Vernal pools are temporary bodies of water I knew it would be gone and completely changed even a week later when I would be driving back by it. So I stopped for about 30 minutes to photograph and absorb the colors and light of the scene. The painting measures 8 x 10, done on canvas covered panel. SOLD

  3. Beautiful. So wonderful that you caught something so transitory and made it into a lasting work of art.
