Poppy and Red Gladiola by Theresa Oats

A poppy bud grew up between the petals of a neighboring gladiola. When it blossomed,
the gladiola petals gave way forming a shape that mimicked 'nestling'. I was inspired to
paint it particularly as it was accompanied by the unraveling gladiola below it and
airy space in between.
Painted on location (plein air) with oils on linen stretched on 12x11 wood stretcher bars.

  1. I like the ornamental feel of this. The background color choice is quite peaceful too. I always make dark background for flowers, this is much more pleasing.
