I painted a large painting with oils on linen over several summers. This is a close-upand trans-illuminated the petals.
The woman in this painting is Lora Jabot. I painted Lora (as she posed tirelessly) in her kitchen which she had transformed with her sense of 'retro' style, color choices and taste in eclectic furnishings. She is wearing an elegant robe which as I recall dates back to the 1950's. She played music popular in the 1940's to the delight of her canary 'Beethoven'(who sang along with the
Jeff dated a friend of ours. At the time I painted Jeff he was working for a law firm
After the winter rains our pasture is lush and green. The skeletal tree stands out against the huge evergreens on our neighbor's property. Wild berries emerge and add a nice color note to our view and the shoreline of the Pacific Ocean is off in the distance. I painted this view from my studio deck with oils on 10x14 inch prepared paper . If you are interested in bidding or would like more information please click here

Anne lives in the same neighborhood where our previous studio(C Street Studios)is located. She is well informed, fun to talk to, and a talented artist. The only place she shows her work is in the window of her modest building. The window doesn't even face the street. I miss the opportunities to converse with Anne. She is fascinating to talk with about life, local history, art and other subjects. Anne posed for me in my studio on C street by a north light window. Not only is she a wonderful subject, she is what painters call 'a great sitter' (which basically means holding a position well and long).I painted with oils, from life, on 24''canvas paper.
I worked from life (at the Humboldt Life Drawing Group) in pastels on paper and exaggerated the various values of glowing cool colors
Our area is rich with wild life. As I paint out in the landscape, it's just a matter of time before
Several artists gathered in Susan Fox's studio to sketch in charcoal, color pencils or paint. Monty's wife volunteered to model which we appreciated because all the artists were
My favorite season to paint our property is winter. The low sun casts high contrast shadows across the land and intensifies colors. Here, a redwood tree is the source of shade moving from left to right and a large group of spruces open to reveal a view of the Pacific Ocean.I painted from our second story deck, working with wet into wet oil paint on a 12x16 inch prepared wood panel. My son, Jim's stepson, posed in my studio on a Saturday. He did an excellent job of being still, but all he could think of was the fun he was missing with his friends. I kept this image
Mike Woods is an artist my husband and I have enjoyed getting to know. In the past year or so, Mike has been experimenting with his work by breaking down the composition of his paintings into luminous blocks of color.
My husband Jim posed under my studio sky light in 1999.He's obviously thinking about something pretty strongly, possibly a painting he was working on. I painted in oils on canvas paper then mounted it on board. I like canvas paper because it doesn't absorb the oil. The paint stays on top which leaves the colors with their original vibrancy. This image is a detail of the painting, there's more background and a bit more of his torso in the actual work. This portion measures 20x18, the painting measures 24x20 in it's entirety.
This man posed for our life drawing/painting group back in the 1980's. He was a student
My husband Jim is the love of my life and a subject for painting I never tire of. Jim is
'Three Roses' is one of several of my paintings of flowers that will be featured in this year's First Street Holiday Invitational(a group show) which opens on November 28 to December 23. This annual exhibit is a fundraiser for Humboldt State University's First Street Gallery.
The shape and arrangement of the gladiola petals of the flower in transition, combined with the surrounding foliage are the inspiration for this painting.
