Ruth Farmer by Rachel K Schlueter

Oil on 8x10" masonite panel.
Ruth Farmer is a new friend that I met through her daughter Jill Farmer who commissioned me to paint her mother's portrait for Ruth's 97th birthday. This is the second portrait of Ruth Farmer I've painted, here she is quite bit younger than in the first portrait .

"Across Menterey Bay" pastel by Ralphie Hendrix

I’ve been quite fortunate to be able to travel with my husband on his golfing trips down to Carmel. This was one of those days that California is famous for, a bright, warm, sunshiny day on the coast. Perfect for sitting, watching and making sure the waves keep on rolling in. This particular piece is a 6 X 9 matted and set in a 10 X 13 black frame. To bid  CLICK HERE.

Mermaid By Steve Porter

I was painting on state beach and a lady crawled up on the rock from the ocean side sat staring at the ocean just long enough for me to paint her in and then disappeared .  Could she have been a mermaid?

Yosemite Falls by Theresa Oats

In 2009 my husband and I spent several weeks on a painting trip with several friends who also
paint out of doors on location ('plein air').  We camped in Yosemite and each went to a favorite
site to paint early in the morning and throughout the day then meeting back at camp shortly before sunset.
I worked on 2 compositions encompassing Lower Yosemite Falls and part of Upper Yosemite Falls,
one a non-sunny day (shown here) and the other during the final hour or so of a sunny day.
Both paintings will be featured this month in a group exhibit of most of the gallery artists showing
at the Sewell Gallery in Eureka California.
The opening date is Tuesday, May 29th.  The Arts Alive Reception is Saturday evening, 5-9pm.

"Prince of a Guy" pastel by Ralphie Hendrix

"Prince of a Guy",  7 X 5 in 10 X 8 mat, pastel, $100.
Prince was a feral cat that my son saved from a sad life while living in the Bay area. He was a gentle, sweet guy that had had a tough life. I painted several pictures of him but this one taught me about"local" color. It's the color right up against shadow but it's not quite the same color as the light. My son had a bright yellow wall in his kitchen and the "local" color was orange. This is a 7 X 5 set in a 10 X 8 mat.

"Camel Rock" oil painting by Andrew Daniel

"Camel Rock" by Andrew Daniel
oil on board 6" x 10" 15cm x 25cm
Bid on this painting here.
This painting was created on a sunny day near Trinidad California. I pulled off the road to paint some of the sea stacks hit by morning light. Straight ahead is "Camel Rock" with the two peaks and too it's right is "Unpaintable Rock" as my friend John Crater likes to call it. I was especially interesting in the color of the sky reflected in the wet sands as I painted this scene.

Bear Butte Mountains By Steve Porter

This watercolor I did awhile back at the Bear Butte area northern california. I tried to keep the trees simple and non cone shaped while adding atmosphere by getting rid of lines .  15" x 20"   arches 300 lb. paper .
contact  me for any of the paintings that i post on our blog  . thankyou for your interest.

Smoke Stack by guest artist Jim McVicker

I was painting early this morning, Sat. the 19th, in Blue Lake. John Crater and Rick Tolley were with me standing on the levy along the Mad River. We were all painting views looking north towards the mountain and town of Blue Lake. The fog had not quite burned off, very frustrating, but to the west of us the sun was hitting a factory and making it glow against the fog filled sky. John said he would give me twenty bucks if I did a painting in twenty minutes. I painted this in ten minutes. I think he owes me double. The sun came out and we had a great day of painting.

College Cove Bathers by guest artist Jim McVicker

This is a watercolor I painted a few years ago at College Cove. Steve Porter and I spent the day painting when this group of friends gathered together to spend the afternoon sunning, conversing and enjoying one of our glorious summer days. It was a scene I couldn't resist painting.

Ruth Farmer by RK Schlueter

oil on 10x12" panel.
I got the honor of not only meeting Ruth Farmer last Sunday but being commissioned to paint her portrait. Saturday is Ruth's birthday, she'll be 97 years young, still driving her car and walking without a cane, we talked and talked about art, politics, family and life in Eureka during the depression, her sense of humor was refreshing. It's not everyday you meet a person like Ruth and when you do, it gives you an uncommon perspective and joyful inspiration..

Mustard and Farm Buildings by Andrew Daniel

"Mustard and Farm Buildings"
oil on wood by Andrew Daniel
5" x 7"(13cm x 18cm)

This painting is available in my online shop.
Or come by and see it during North Coast Open Studios!
June 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 10th 11:00 am to 5:00 pm
1885 Zehndner Ave. Arcata

I wanted to paint this day, but the sky was gray and the drizzling, then I came across this vibrant field as I was returning home. The colors were so vibrant and lush for the middle of winter. It was lovely to spend a couple of wet hours observing the subtle changes in yellow hues, rather then returning home to be cooped up.

'BOATS ON THE BAY' By Steve Porter

occasionally I enjoy doing a five minute watercolor. Its fun to just throw it on there and see what happens. It almost becomes abstract.  'Boats on the bay' is   14" x 20"

Swimmers Delight by guest artist Jim McVicker

Rick Tolley picked up Terry and I today, Saturday May 12th, and drove us out highway 36 to the Van Duzen river and the spot known as Swimmers Delight. It was a stunningly beautiful warm day, which the three of us spent painting. Quite a number of people showed up by afternoon to soak up the sun and take a dip in the water. I couldn't resist painting some of the figures enjoying the day.
