Because of Him by RK Schlueter
Oil on 4" x5" panel.
I love suspense and what can be captured in an instant. In the case of a single portrait painting, there is no back ground information to draw from, no story, no reference, just an expression that coveys an emotion that sparks the imagination to interpret what is happening. There is quite a bit of information in facial gestures and the subtlest can sometimes have the most intense meaning. There are 50 muscles in the face, they can combine to make 3000 different expressions, many involuntary or too subtle to notice unless you're looking for it.
